Gift Card Holders

Ginny ordered 20 gift card holders similar to the ones I stitched for her a couple years ago:

I stitched 10 mittens and 10 stockings. The designs are from A Design by Lyn.

I also did a key chain for her:

Merry Christmas Preschool!

Last week I got all the stitching done for the preschool gifts I wanted to give from either myself or Annaliese, and now it's safe to post pictures!
First of all, we do an ornament gift exchange at the staff Christmas party. I drew Karen's name, and decided to make this Candy Cane Sleigh ornament from Embroidery Garden. Instead of stitching "Believe" as the design comes, I substituted it with her last name (Embird Alphabet #38). The sleigh is designed to actually hold something (probably a folded check or cash). I slipped in a piece of candy. :)

As gifts for Annaliese's teacher and the preschool director, I stitched these towels:

The applique ornament design is from Embroidery Boutique. I added their last names with Embird Alphabet #33, shifting the letters up and down to mimic the wave in the ornament. Annaliese picked who got each towel color as well as the fabrics (with a bit of guidance) and I thought they turned out nice!

Finally, as a little favor for all of Annaliese's classmates and the whole staff, I made these personalized stockings.

They are designed to be gift card holders (from A Design by Lyn), but I just slipped some chocolate inside. I added the names with Embird Alphabet #8. As usual, I have a hard time photographing red items, so believe me they look cuter in person. Here's a close-up of Annaliese's. She insisted on having a new one even though she has one from Grandma and at least one from last year when I made them.

Merry Christmas, Carlin!

Carlin is saving up for a new prosumer video camera. He's recently done some freelance jobs and ebay auctions to jump start this process, and is calling the fund his "camera dog". So my gift to him for Christmas was going to the bank to officially set up a saving account, and depositing extra money to get him to 25% down. To present this to him, I made this holder for the deposit book:

The card holder design came from Embroidery Garden (it's technically a Weigh In Book Holder). The design of the man with a camera was a freebie. I added the text with Embird Alphabet #2. Someday soon that will be Carlin Trammel running with a new video camera!

Loads of Gift Card Holders!

Well, I couldn't get my Giga Hoop to work last night, and didn't have time to figure out why. It really wouldn't have saved me a ton of time anyway, so not that big of a loss... for now.
Today my machine was stitching more than it wasn't! (And my lips are really chapped, but only my mom will fully understand that.) I made a ton of these gift card holders. This picture doesn't do them justice, but I don't have time to take better pictures. Maybe later, unless they all sell! :)

The mitten gift card holders are basically all the same, green and white on red. The stockings have lots of variations: some traditional Christmas colors, colors for little girls and boys, and then of course colors for the Noles and Gators!
I also want to offer personalized gift card holders, so I need to take examples. I chose Tiffany and A.J., in honor of Tiffany's comments on this blog. No, this isn't a payoff, just a small token of my gratitude! I'll give them to you after Sunday's craft booth at Southwood.

When the weekend is over I'll post more details on where the design came from and how they are constructed.

Graduation time!

One of the benefits of going home to visit this weekend is that I'll get to see my baby brother graduate from school (he's been attending UTI in Chicago). I didn't get to go to his high school graduation, so this will be a special treat.
I made this gift card holder for him today. The in-hoop design was a freebie from Embroidery Garden, the cap/tassle came off of another freebie from Sew Forum, and the text was added with Embird Alphabet #33. I decided to try variegated thread for the satin stitch edge. It turned out pretty neat!
