Casserole Carrier

Nearly four years ago I made a casserole carrier for Susie, my daughter's preschool teacher. (Side note, thanks to Pinterest and Tipnut, that is my third most viewed blog post, nearly 9000 hits!)
She recently requested that I make a similar one for her to give to her daughter for her birthday. I was happy to oblige!
The stick figure design is part of a set from Artistic Thread Works called Daily-Chore-Sticks Embroidery Design Set. The checkered border is from Embroidery Garden. I added the text with Embird Alphabet #8.

Gifts of Appreciation

This week is teacher appreciation week in our county. An idea I saw on Pinterest inspired my first gift:
Isn't that SODA-lighted tag so cute? You can get here. I attached it to this can kookie I made for Annaliese's teacher in their school colors. I used Embird alphabet #7 for the text.

For Dashiell's beloved Ms. Martha I made a casserole carrier. She had admired mine at Thanksgiving, but I ran out of time at Christmas to make her one, and completely dropped the ball on getting it done for her birthday.

The chef hat and utensils design is from Embroidery Library. I used Embird Alphabet #8 for the text. The border design came from Dee Giles.
(And with this I am out of all the red placemats I bought in 2007. I have a pair of green and a handful of ivory left. I'll be so sad when they are gone, I haven't found a good source for these at the same price.)

A friend of Carlin hosted our family for the weekend. I had never met his friend's wife, but wanted to take a little something as a gift. Knowing that they had a 19 month old son, I figured a Stay-Put towel would be appreciated. :)
Not knowing what their kitchen looked like I selected a neutral fabric (thanks Joy!). This time I placed the monogram on the fabric instead of the bottom corner of the towel. The H is Brass from 8CP.

I also wanted to make a little something for their son. Daddy is such a big fan of the Flash that I figured PJ already had a shirt (I was right!) so I made this tote bag. I digitized the symbol myself (for personal use only) and added his name with Mandi from 8CP

I love being able to create personalized gifts to say, "Hey, thanks!" :)

And Chandra ordered this one for Cathy. I just love the blues!

Andrea asked me to make a Casserole Carrier for her to give to her sister for her birthday. She told me she's pretty sure she is going to get the best sister ever award. :)

Casserole Carrier

A friend of mine is moving this week. Rebekah truly has the gift of hospitality and I wanted to give her a thank you gift for setting such a good example. I thought a casserole carrier was appropriate since she loves to cook!

Casserole Carriers

Laura asked me to make casserole carriers for her mom and mother-in-law for Mother's Day.

For her mom's casserole carrier, we used the Resort font from 8 Claws and a Paw:

For her mother-in-law we used the Empire font from Embroidery Arts.

Casserole Carrier

A friend of ours got married this fall, and I was very delinquent in sending a gift, so much so that we decided to wait and deliver it in person when we traveled to IL for Christmas. :) And I've now been delinquent in posting pictures of it!

I was so pleased with the casserole carriers I stitched for Susie that I decided to do something similar for Dawn. I opted to use ivory placemats and stitch the design in what I thought to be her favorite color purple (although it may no longer be after her current editing gig, hee hee...)

Casserole Carriers and an Apron

Susie was so pleased with her casserole carrier that she, her mom and sister ordered several to give as Christmas gifts this year.

The chef hat and utensils design is from Embroidery Library. I used Embird Alphabet #8 for the text. The border design came from Dee Giles.

And the other four, virtually identical:

Susie also requested a phrase to stitch on an apron: "I'm not aging, I'm marinating." I thought that was so cute! I used Embird Alphabet #14 for the text, and took the basting brush and steak from an Embroidery Library design.

Happy Birthday, Ms. Susie!

Today Annaliese's class celebrated Ms. Susie's birthday. They each signed a cute card (amazing how those signatures have improved over the year!!) and we presented her with a group gift. I made a personalized casserole carrier, and another mom made a cake in the covered pan we purchased as part of the gift. She LOVED it, it was so fun to watch her open it.

The stick figure design is part of a set from Artistic Thread Works called Daily-Chore-Sticks Embroidery Design Set. The checkered border is from Embroidery Garden. I added the text with Embird Alphabet #8.

This is the first casserole carrier that I've added handles and the spoon closure to:

I took 2 yards of webbing and stitched the ends together to form a big loop. I stitched it down on the bottom placemat like this:

Then I laid the embroidered placemat on top, lining up the buttonholes on both placemats, and stitched around the other three sides. Here's a shot showing how my pan fits inside:

And here are shots of the back side and inside:

I really like how it turned out. Some day soon I'll have to deconstruct mine and add the handles and buttonholes for the spoon!

Casserole Cover

This casserole cover has been ordered as a Christmas gift:

I love the simplicity of the three-letter monogram! Again, this is from my new favorite monogram set, Empire font from Embroidery Arts.

Just a note to my faithful readers... we are embarking on the time of year when I will be stitching many Christmas gifts, both orders from you and gifts for our family/friends. In addition, I'll be monogramming stuff for our baby boy due in about 6 weeks, but his name won't be revealed until his birth. SOOOOOO... There will not be as many posts as sewing projects over the next 6 weeks, but when the beginning of January hits, watch out! :)

Casserole Covers

Jasmine found my blog and requested casserole covers similar to the two I made for myself. I stitched these last week but forgot to post them! My first shipment to Hawaii!! :)

This pretty applique monogram is from Embroidery Boutique. I added the text with Embird Alphabet #17.

Another Casserole Cover for Me

Like I mentioned before, I have lots of place mats ready to go for casserole covers. I decided to make another one for myself as a sample of a less stitch-intensive design i.e. less expensive to duplicate. :)

This pretty applique monogram is from Embroidery Boutique. I added the text with Embird Alphabet #17.

I picked the fabric for the applique patch to match this button I had. I won't always be so fortunate, but I had bought a pair of buttons to coordinate with fabric for one of my rag bags last year, so I decided it was time to use the leftover button.

Casserole Cover for Me!!

Back in December I made casserole covers for my mom and mother-in-law for Christmas. Then the day after Christmas I went shopping and bought a TON of the same placemats to have on hand for future gifts and orders. I am just now getting around to using them. We had a potluck scheduled last Sunday and I decided it was time I made one for myself. I didn't end up getting to use it since church was canceled due to Tropical Storm Fay, but at least it finally motivated me to make one! When I do get to use it, it will serve as a decorative carrier to potlucks, an identifier for who made the yummy dish, and be used as a hot pad underneath the pan. It can accommodate up to a covered 9"x13" pan.

Merry Christmas to our moms...

I opted to make our moms casserole carriers for Christmas. I got two pairs of quilted place mats from Wal-Mart. After stitching the embroidery designs, I added a buttonhole & button and stitched around 3 sides. They will serve as a decorative carrier to potlucks, an identifier for who made the yummy dish, and used as a hot pad underneath the pan as it's being served. They can accommodate up to a covered 9"x13" pan.

First up is my mom's. The design is from a set I got for free from Artistic Thread Works called Daily-Chore-Sticks Embroidery Design Set. The checkered border is a freebie from Embroidery Garden. I added the text with Embird Alphabet #17.

Kathy's design was also from ATW, a free sample of the Stick-Kitchen-Mice Embroidery Design Set.
