Awareness Raggy Patch Hats

This year I was unable to attend our local "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" walk, but I was able to support a friend! Tarika asked if I could help her team by embroidering hats. She purchased the hats and I made a raggy patch for them that included her team name:

Special thanks to Rachel of EB who modified her free Awareness ribbon for me by converting it to a raggy design. I added the text "Demi Duos" (team name) using 8CP's Kayleigh, which was as close as a match I could find to the font that was printed on their team shirts last year.
I was able to get 6 of these in my 6x10 hoop, so I stitched them all first (hooped tearaway, 2 layers of flannel and one later of gingham on top, a layer of pink floated on the bottom)
Then trimmed them all out and fluffed them up:
Then glued them all down!
Here's a picture of the team from the event taken by the MSABC photographer, Ada Images and Designs (photo used with permission).
This was a fun project to work on and I was delighted to donate my time to a great cause!
However... I'm not really in the business of selling raggy patch hats, so if you are in the market for one, let me give a quick shout out to my friend, Tracy. She answered all my questions and gave me honest feedback when my first patch attempt was too big. :) Her hats are beautiful, click here to see my favorite posted on her fb page Naptime Craft Mommy!

...Off to explore I go!

Lynn contacted me about personalizing a suitcase she has to be used by a young girl who comes to visit. The suitcase came with curriculum and had screen printing on the front and back (like this, I forgot to take "before" pictures).

There was no way to stitch directly onto the suitcase, so I made two patches that I tacked down in place. Lynn requested a three letter monogram, a red/white/black color scheme, polka dots and ladybugs. This is what I came up with:

The applique letters are from Five Star Font's Hipster Applique Font.

There was another screen-printed logo on the back, so Lynn requested this text for that patch. I used Embird Alphabet #8.

In addition to the suitcase, Lynn also requested embroidered patches to be put on the back of a couple T-shirt quilts for her daughters.

JR's backpack

When Daisha updated their family blog with pictures of JR's first day of school, I realized I had never posted a picture of the patch I had stitched for her.

Now, JR is not starting kindergarten like Annaliese. He's pursuing a Masters of Divinity at Harding Graduate School of Religion. As a surprise gift, Daisha asked me to make a big patch that she would later attach on whatever backpack he picked. Here's what I stitched, per her request, knowing that JR would LOVE it. (I bought a new alphabet for the occasion, this is Embird Alphabet #30.)

If you'd like to know more about the statement, check out JR's blog, Keep Thou My Feet, I'm not getting into a theological debate here. :) Although I will say that Annaliese kept asking me what it said and what it meant -- she just didn't get it. Daisha and I both reassured her that JR loves Jesus. You know, it's like the song, "Oh, how I love Jesus, because he first loved me!"

Here's a picture of the patch now in place on JR's bag:

Monogramming for Baby Kaitlyn

Marcy is Angie's friend, and after she saw Hagan in his Special Delivery Onesie, she contacted me about making one for her daughter. So first up is her Special Delivery Onesie (design from Sew Terific).

Marcy also asked me to monogram some items she already had. She has started making burp cloths by adding ribbon and fabric (the are all so cute!), but she also wants them monogrammed. For this one she picked the Flower Power monogram from Julia's Needle Design. I added her name with the Rumba font from Sew Crazie Designs.

Next was a ribbon blanket that she had purchased, maybe at a craft show? Anyway, I added her monogram with my new Empire Monogram Font from Embroidery Arts.

Finally, Marcy brought me this awesome bag that she had bought for... are you ready for this? ONE DOLLAR at a Pottery Barn Outlet. It was already monogrammed, which I guess is why it was so cheap. She and her family had done an amazing job picking out the stitches... but the way the pocket was attached, there was no way I could hoop it and stitch a monogram on it without closing the pocket. So instead I did a monogram patch, using the same technique described in this post. The monogram is Embellished Curlz, also from Sew Crazie Designs.

Monogramming a bag

Tiffany asked me to to monogram a bag she bought for a friend. I don't have an industrial type machine, so I couldn't hoop the bag and monogram it directly in the position she wanted. Instead I did an applique patch (same method as I used for Roberta's bag) and hand stitched it in place. I used Embird Alphabet #17 for the letters.

A Four Trammel Christmas Outfit

Grandma Kathy made the shirt, Aunt Amy made the headband, I embellished the pants and Annaliese gets to wear it! :)

The Christmas Moose design came from Sew Many Designs. Kathy stitched the applique design on a red shirt and sent it to us in the mail with the headband. Kathy and I both looked high and low for a cute pair of leggings to go with it, but all we settled on were solid red. Once I saw the shirt in person, I realized that Annaliese had a pair of tan colored pants that matched the moose perfectly, but it had pink flowers embroidered on it:

Since these pants were hand-me-downs and are on the brink of being too small, I tried my hand at embellishing pants. I embroidered the strand of lights design (from Embroidery Library) on red fabric and then stitched them onto the pants for form a patch. I left the edges raw and pulled out threads to make it fray. It turned out cuter than I expected!

The headband, which I need to get a better picture of, has reindeers and Christmas lights, so it's matches really well!
