Rejoice!

I have been so busy with my "day job" that I have severely neglected my blog. But I'm taking some time to catch up over spring break, and I want to share this beautiful project from earlier in the year... before Easter has come and gone!
I had the honor and privilege of testing this Rejoice design for Lynnie Pinnie:
Isn't it gorgeous? I love everything about it! The way the fabrics are tacked down and top stitched for the gradient sky, the texture of the cross, the font choice... it's beautiful!
I stitched it on a nice woven fabric first, then before I unhooped I floated two layers of burlap and a loop of ribbon under my hoop and added a triple-bean stitch rectangle around the perimeter to tack it all together. Trimmed it and frayed it and turned it into a wall hanging for myself!
When I hung it up my daughter said, "Oh is that for Easter?" and then immediately said it was good anytime though. That's exactly right! We can rejoice in our risen Savior every day of the year!

As for me and my house...

I had the opportunity to test stitch this cute little Cottage House applique design from Lynnie Pinnie, so I decided to create a little in-hoop wall hanging for myself.
I attempted to match the colors in my kitchen, but as you can see, I must have grabbed the wrong green thread?? So actually it's hanging in our bedroom instead. :) I used Embird alphabet #8 to add the text of Joshua 24:15. I think the little cottage is cute. This is the 4x4 size:
The bigger sizes have even more applique pieces. I think it would be so cute in fun whimsical fabrics, maybe on a larger wall hanging for a quilt shop? Wouldn't that be adorable??

Personalized Christmas Decor

A couple weeks ago I tested this cute Christmas design. I decided to personalize it, turn it into a mini-wallhanging and give it to a dear friend.
The Holiday Fireplace Applique design is now available at Lynnie Pinnie and is on sale for 99 cents!! This is the 4x4" design before personalization:
And here it is after. I use Embird Alphabet #8 to add the name and monograms.

I had also planned to do the 5x7 design and personalize it for my family, but alas, I broke my machine and it still isn't fixed. :(  Hopefully soon...  Please pray for me, it has been a very long two weeks.

woven & spun

Cherri asked me to make a little wall hanging using the logo for our women's ministry at church. Kathy digitized the "woven & spun" text for me (using the font Raleway). I used Embird Alphabet #16 for the rest (which isn't exactly the font that Annie used, but close enough for this project!).

It was added to a sign-up board for the upcoming women's retreat, but can be saved and reused for future events.

I WON!

If you are a faithful blog reader, you surely know that I use alphabets from 8 Claws and a Paw on many of my projects. I submitted pictures of my items for their Project Showcase, and my name was drawn for the monthly subscription giveaway! WOO-HOO!!
I am in the process of downloading the alphabets that have been recently added to their site, and it will take me FOREVER to unzip all these delightful files. But now I will have over 200 fonts to wade through whenever I have a new project in mind. (In reality, this really is more overwhelming than helpful! HA!)
Take a look at all my options!
THANKS JULIE!!!

While I'm at it, let me share something else...

Right after Dashiell was born, I made mini wall hangings that spell out his name as a decoration for his room.

The monkey/letter designs are from OregonPatchWorks. When I was finished, I submitted pictures for the Customer Projects Corner of their weekly Embroidery Newsletter.
My project was immediately met with great enthusiasm! Jackie of OPW asked me to write directions for how I made the individual wall hangings, with pictures showing each step. Well, I was already done with all the letters of Dashiell's name, so I created another little wall hanging to use on his door. I used the same letter d design, but I deleted the duck and added the text instead (using Embird Alphabet #2). As I stitched it out, I took pictures of each step.

I've waited all this time to post a picture of it (I wanted it to be a surprise to Kathy who also subscribes), but it was never mentioned in the weekly newsletter. I can only imagine how many amazing submissions they get each week!! However, the pdf that Carlin created for me is now available for download on the OPW Member's Only Club!

Welcome to Dashiell's Room!

It took Carlin and me a while to figure out what kind of theme we wanted to do in Dashiell's room. In October a cute set of monkey designs was released at OregonPatchWorks, so we found a cute bedding set in blues and browns and decided to decorate with monkeys. I bought the designs early on, but didn't get around to stitching them until after Dashiell was born. I haven't stitched all the designs in the set, just the letters of his name, in order to create this set of mini wall hangings:

None of the fabrics used are actually in his bedding set, but I used fabrics from both the quilt I am making and the quilt my mom made Dashiell. I think that makes this decoration tie everything together nicely. Here are close-ups of each letter.

To construct the wall hangings, I created an in-hoop design. First I stitched the monkey design, then I tacked down the ribbon at the top, laid down the backing fabric face down with a layer of batting, and stitched an almost complete rectangle. After removing it from the hoop and trimming the edges to 1/4 inch, all I had to do was invert the mini wallhanging and top stitch around the edges. I had to work out some kinks on the first two, then the rest went together very smoothly!
