This weekend I made a cute little bandana dress for an even cuter little girl! When Brittany saw Annaliese's Seminoles skirt, she wanted something similar for Kendal. I used every bit of that fabric, but I knew I still had some FSU bandanas in my stash and could make her a dress like I did for Annaliese a few years ago. It turned out so cute!!
On the bodice, I used the Vintage Split Football Design from East Coast Applique. I added her name with College Block Small from 8 Claws and a Paw.
While I'm sharing this design, let me also show you the Split Tennis Ball design. I tested this for ECA using yellow fleece and it turned out so cute!
I put it on a hand-me-down onesie that has a sweet yellow trim. This upcycle item is ready for a new home. Any tennis fans with a baby girl in the family? :)

Daddy's Little Seminoles
Our family has some big news to announce -- when Annaliese starts school in the fall, so does her daddy! Carlin Trammel has been accepted at FSU's College of Communication and Information to pursue a Master's degree!!
Up until this point, we've been relatively unbiased with sports teams down here in the South, keeping our loyalties to my Alma Mater, the University of Illinois. But now that Daddy is going to be a Seminole, it's time for some Seminole gear!

Dashiell is sporting yet another new bib. The applique is from a football sucker holder design from Embroidery Garden (a freebie on her yahoo group) and I added the text with Embird Alphabet #8.

For Annaliese, I finally made an FSU bandana dress for her like Madison's. The top layer of the skirt is an FSU bandana, the bottom is some nice garnet colored calico. After I cut the center out of the bandana, the word "SEMINOLES" was left behind. One of the rounded rectangle appliques from My Embroidery Haven's yahoo group fits around "NOLES" perfectly, so I appliqued that to the shirt. As always, Annaliese already has a matching headband courtesy of Aunt Amy!

~~~~~~~
I made Annaliese's dress at the same time I made one for Kenzie's birthday (Memorial Day weekend). Valerie and I quickly decided Kylie needed one, too. I was out of tank tops though, so by the time Valerie found a blank one, I got the dress made and delivered, we are just now getting a group picture of the girls together!
If memory serves me correct, this is the third time they have all matched. First, their flip flop outfits in summer 2007,
then their Valentine's outfits in 2008,
and now their bandana dresses.
These girls sure are growing up fast!
Happy Birthday, Kylie!
Our little friend Kylie turned one today. When I asked mommy if she had any gift requests, she mentioned that she'd be taking Kylie to her first FAMU homecoming game soon. I knew right away what I wanted to do... an orange and green bandana dress.
I embroidered the turtleneck onesie with a snake design from Designs by JuJu (a freebie on her yahoo group), and then added the bandanas to make the skirt.
And here's a picture of Kylie modeling her dress:
Here's a picture of Madison in her FSU Bandana dress that we gave her for her birthday. Looks like it fits now with room for growth next spring. Whew!
What a cutie...
Happy Birthday, Madison!
Tomorrow is Madison's Fourth Birthday! We gave her this bandana dress.
The top layer is an FSU bandana, the bottom is just some nice garnet colored calico. After I cut the center out of the bandana, there was the word "SEMINOLES" left behind. I couldn't let that go to waste! I discovered that one of the rounded rectangle appliques from My Embroidery Haven's yahoo group would fit around "NOLES". I also happened to have thread that matches the gold color perfectly. I was pretty pleased.
Madison and her family are headed out of town for the weekend, so hopefully I'll get a modeled picture once they return. I'm anxious to see how well it fits and if I'll have any alterations to make.
I have 11 more of these bandanas, courtesy of Ginny Wagner, so we'll see if Madison generates special requests by wearing it around town!
A Case of "The Tank Tops are Too LONG"
Yesterday I made two bandana dresses. One is a Fourth of July dress for Ella, 2.5 yrs old. I took a 2T tank top and used red and blue bandanas to make the dress. Quick simple project, right?
Well, what I didn't pay attention to is how LONG the tank top was. When poor Ella put it on, the waistline was a good 2-3 inches too low. That's significant on a little girl! So this evening I cut the skirt off, trimmed off about 2" off the shirt, and sewed it back on. To cover all my stitching, I added navy ribbon (which has red accents you can't see in the picture). It turned out beautifully and now fits Ella perfectly! She wasn't too thrilled with the idea of getting her picture taken at that moment, but cooperated!
Now I'll have to tackle the second one I made yesterday... It was for Keeley's 2nd birthday party. I used a 24 month tank top for her, pink and purple bandanas, and embroidered her initial on the tank.
Thought it looked precious, until her mommy held it up to her -- I think it might touch the floor if she were to wear it as is!! Since Ella's modification worked, I need to get this dress back to fix...
Bandana Dress, now with Embroidery
Here's an update on a previous post... I bought this cute paisley frame design from AK Designs Boutique and use a Curlz font A. It's a perfect match and Annaliese was thrilled to see an A on her dress. We bought more bandanas on Sunday, and she expected the new dresses to be made when she woke up from her nap! ;)
I like Daisha's suggestion of adding ribbon (or maybe ric rac) to the waistline. We'll see what I can find.
Bandana Dress
Thursday night Kathy sent me patterns for several EZ 2 Make patterns for little girls, purchased here: http://www.ez2sew.com/index.php?main_page=index
Friday I went shopping for bandanas, shirts, pillowcases (actually bought yardage of fabric instead) ribbon, bias tape and elastic. Today I'm working on the projects!
I decided to start with the easiest first, EZ 2 Make Bandana Dress. I need to embroider something on the shirt, but I didn't want to waste my time if I goofed up on the skirt. It turned out pretty well, although I'm not sure if the front point is actually centered.
Centered or not, it makes a nice twirly dress, which is extremely important to a 3 year old!
So I have to decide what to embroider. Embroidery Library has some neat paisley designs that would be cute. Or I might applique an "A" on the shirt, using the leftover bandana fabric cut out of the center. I think it also needs a little extra something around the waistline, maybe ribbon or ric-rac. We'll see...
Any way, it was EZ2Make!
